His Highness the Amir of the state of Kuwait ,Sheikh Sabah Ahmed Jaber Alsabah said respectfully on Kuwaiti women:

“One of the main aspects of democracy in Kuwait is it’s belief in the freedom of women and their right to expression and to work and to hold leadership positions .Kuwaiti women have surpassed many in the region in achieving political,social and economic rights and they have cooperated with their countrymen in bearing responsibility in their society”.

KDWA, the Kuwait Distinguished Women Award (KDWA), has been designed in alignment with the State of Kuwait Vision 2035, the goals and objectives of the Kuwait National Development Plan (KNDP), and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG5) Agenda 2030, by recognizing and celebrating the role that women play to support achieving growth and development of their own communities, at home and around the world.

KDWA highlights the exceptional work that outstanding women do in order to improve the quality of life in the public and private sectors as well as within the civil society. KDWA will not only reward these distinguished women but it will also encourage other members of the society to follow their example.

KDWA strengthens Kuwait's position internationally in the area of "Women's Empowerment", as part of its commitment and leadership of the global efforts to ensure effective implementation of SDGS: "Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls."

KDWA is an award supported by the Supreme Council for Planning and Development, Women's Research and Studies Center of Kuwait University, in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and UN Women. KDWA is an international award presented every year on March 8th, on International Women's Day. The Award is given to three women representing each of the key sectors: public, private and the civil society.

KDWA's first award ceremony will be held under the patronage of H.H.the Amir of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber AI-Sabah .

VISION

An enabled environment that encourages women to excel in their chosen field of interest and to cause positive change in their societies in alignment with the Global Sustainable Development Goals Agenda 2030, where their diverse contributions towards achieving sustainable development are recognized.

MISSION

  • Support the empowerment and leadership of women in the social, economic and political areas .
  • Recognize and celebrate distinguished women who excel in their efforts .
  • Support and empower women to become productive members of the society.

Objectives

  • 1. Spreading the values of good example in society through distinguished women and this in itself is a positive behavioral result that will enhance the role of negative phenomena in society.
  • 2. To create a mental image in the international community about the role of the State of Kuwait in enhancing the role of women in society in general and Kuwaiti women in particular in recognition of their status and promotion of their distinguished and superior knowledge in many fields and specialties. The State's appreciation extends to all women of the world by allowing them to run through this international award High-level .
  • 3. create positive competition in different sectors where women are present, and spreading the values ​​of excellence in working women, which results in increasing the productivity of women and improving the output of the institutions to which they belong.
  • 4. Spreading the values of good example in society through distinguished women, which in itself is a behavioral result that enhances the fight against negative phenomena in society.
  • 5. create a positive mental image in the international community about the role of the State of Kuwait in enhancing the role of women and extending the appreciation of the state to all women of the world by allowing them to run through this award.

The Award will be given every year on International Women's Day.

SCOPE OF THE AWARD

The Award will be given to three successful candidates from each of the these sectors: the public sector, the private sector and from the civil society.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Successful candidates should meet the following requirements :

1. Has demonstrated innovative and creative techniques to develop and improve a program or a service that has significantly helped advance the mission of her workplace.

2. Has a vision of a future strategy to develop/implement social or humanitarian programs that will contribute to sustainable and positive change and improve social and economic development.

3. Has a proven five-year long impact on the society .

4. Has received recognition or awards for her performance and work.

IMPACT OF THE AWARD

1. The Award recognizes initiatives that encourage competitiveness among distinguished/pioneering women in all of the Award's sectors to promote women's effective contributions.

2. The Award mobilizes the effective participation of women in the various sectors and emphasizes values that increase productivity and improve institutional performance.

3. The Award encourages innovative solutions to address challenges that face the community through the effectiveness of the role of pioneering women.

4. The Award positions Kuwait internationally by recognizing the role of women, acknowledging their contributions in various disciplines and specializations, and celebrating the dedication and efforts of outstanding women at home and around the world through allowing them the opportunity to be nominated for the Award.

Award Terms

GENERAL RULES FOR PARTICIPATION

1. Every candidate should choose to represent one of these categories: the public or the private sector or the civil society.

2. The candidate should have a minimum of three years working experience.

3. The candidate should complete the online form on KDWA's website and provide all required documents.

4. The decisions of the panel regarding the screening, evaluation and final selection of KDWA winners are final and non-negotiable.

5. Finalists will be interviewed to decide on the Award's winner from each of the three key sectors.

6. The three winners should be willing to appear in all visual, audiovisual and written media, upon request, and without any responsibility on the part of the Award's founding agencies or on the Award's Higher Committee or any other entity. KDWA and its higher and executive committees reserve full rights to KDWA's official logo and any unauthorized use of the logo shall constitute a liability.

7. No member of the Award's committee(s) may participate or be nominated to the Award ..
